Maintenance-free family retreat
This backyard retreat was designed for a family that wanted a summer getaway they didn't have to drive to. Designed by Gerald Grieve Landscape Group Limited, the task was to create a space that would work for entertaining a large extended family and children, all the while being virtually maintenance-free for the homeowners.

Designed with the look of a resort, all of the structures were built in PVC so they would require zero maintenance, but offer many years of use.

A punchy blue pool liner was selected to offer a more tropical feel, a cascade water feature to add the sound of falling water. The pool is surrounded by Wiarton stone in a square cut, installed with artificial turf. This unique application provides a striking look to the landscape with no maintenance to keep the lawn looking perfect.

A large outdoor kitchen and covered patio area were created with more Wiarton stone.

Two-tiered entertaining
The homeowners of this mature property were looking for a landscape built for entertaining with a modern aesthetic. The result is a two-tiered deck and pool installation by Polar Pools & Landscapes Ltd.

This project was large-scale based on all of the individual elements brought together to create a contemporary, private outdoor living space.

The lower level deck is seamlessly finished inside, including a tongue and groove cedar ceiling. The deck above is entirely sealed with a waterproof membrane so the lower level stays dry no matter the weather.

The second-level deck is enclosed with glass rather than traditional railings, to provide the nicest view to the pool. Where privacy was needed, cedar screens constructed horizontally were used to repeat the linear lines of the stonework, and add to the modern sensibility of the space.

Texture was added with raised detail stone walls around the pool, the water features and two fireplaces. The shallow end of the pool was shaped and custom-built with a bench at the raised wall. LED lighting was added for nighttime ambiance.
