Cut the carbs with cold

New research shows that refrigerating rice with a teaspoon of coconut oil can drastically reduce calories. The science behind it is as such: Rice contains two types of starches, digestible and indigestible, and our bodies only have the ability to break down the digestible starches into glucose, better known as sugar. The sugars then get converted into fat, and with a staple food such as rice, that fat can quickly add up. By refrigerating for 12 hours some of these digestible starches become indigestible resulting in fewer calories being absorbed by the body. Adding this simple step to your cooking method can reduce the calories in rice by up to 60 per cent, a staggering amount considering the simplicity behind it.
